Fun Fall Activities for Camp or Home

Ah! Breathe in that crisp, cool air! Fall is here, which means it’s time for our kids to get out and enjoy a host of new activities. We may be packing up the swimsuits, but there are still plenty of fun things to do, whether our little ones are headed off to camp (and in need of sleepaway camp labels) or spending time trying out new things at home. Whether you’re a camp counselor or a parent looking for a way to get your kids active as the weather starts to cool down, here’s a look at some of our favorite fall activities.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Fall is certainly the time for all things pumpkin, so what better way to enjoy the season than by visiting a pumpkin patch? With Halloween just around the corner, everybody from little ones to adults can get in on the fun by picking out the perfect pumpkin to carve into an ooky-spooky Jack-O-Lantern! Meanwhile, don’t forget to pick up a few extra pumpkins that you can use to transform into everything from pumpkin bread to pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin cookies! If you’re taking a bunch of campers to a pumpkin patch, it can be easy for things to get lost. Visit a Local Park or Nature Center

While everybody thinks of spring as the perfect time to head out and see what nature has to offer, fall is an incredible time to head out and visit your local parks or nature centers. Now is the time of year when trees begin transforming into a kaleidoscope of red, orange, and yellow, and wildlife begins to prepare for the winter, collecting nuts, berries, and other food. In fact, you can find many weekend sleepaway camps for kids where they can get out and enjoy a little time away while viewing nature in their area. Fall-Themed Arts and Crafts

The weather can change in a second in the fall, so it’s always a good idea to have the supplies on hand for kids to enjoy some last minute arts and crafts. Some fun ideas include having kids make owls out of paper bags, using toilet paper tubes to craft cute squirrels, making ghosts with white tissues and black markers, or using black construction paper and googly eyes to create spooky spiders! On a day that’s a little more pleasant, kids can even go out into the yard to gather fallen leaves into trash bags to create large spiders or pumpkins!
